About the Role
The Stock Controller ensures that all stock in the storeroom is organised and accurately accounted for. This requires neat unpacking, regular stock rotation, and maintaining optimal stock levels to prevent shortages or overstocking. They are responsible for monitoring incoming and outgoing stock, reconciling physical counts with system records, and ensuring compliance with company standards and procedures. The Stock Controller plays a critical role in minimising shrinkage, maintaining product quality, and supporting smooth store operations. They will work closely with store leadership, suppliers, and the sales team to ensure timely replenishment and accurate reporting. Additionally, they provide the Area Sales Manager with updates through stock reports, variance analyses, and inventory audits to maintain transparency and operational efficiency.
Experience & Requirements
• The role does not require any prior experience and would be ideal for a school leaver, however, knowledge of the FMCG environment will be advantageous.
• Exposure to the use of mobile technology (smart device) is essential.
• Good Mathematical and English ability.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Well developed time management skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
Qualifications
• A National Senior Certificate (grade 12) or National Certificate Vocational is a minimum requirement.
• A degree, diploma or certificate in any field will be seen as an advantage.
Responsibilities
Including but not limited to the following:
• Ensuring all stock in the storeroom is neatly unpacked, organised, and stored according to company standards.
• Performing regular stock rotations to maintain product freshness and prevent expiry.
• Monitoring stock levels and ensuring timely replenishment to avoid shortages or overstocking.
• Reconciling physical stock counts with system records and investigating discrepancies.
• Ensuring accurate labeling of products, including PI Labels and barcodes.
• Preparing and submitting stock reports, variance analyses, and inventory audits to leadership (Area Sales Manager).
• Liaising with suppliers, store management, and Area Sales Managers regarding stock holdings and delivery schedules.
• Implementing and maintaining security measures to minimise shrinkage and loss.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards in the storeroom.
• Identifying slow-moving or obsolete stock and recommending actions to optimise inventory.
• Assisting with stock transfers between stores or warehouses when required.
